Berea Arts Council || 4 Seasons 4 Directions Workshop
The Berea Arts Council and Community Acupuncture Berea present four art classes with artist Kathleen O’Brien.  Gathering on Saturdays near the Solstices and Equinoxes, participants will learn about the cycles of the year, its seasons and directions, the origins of the holidays, holy days and world wisdom traditions, the rhythms of the sun and moon.  Participants will create a loose-leaf folio of works on paper – a journal of writings, collage, drawing, doodles – by year’s end resulting in a guidebook to navigate through time and space.

Arts Council of Louisville || "Community Arts Benefit" For Lava House Artists
Let's join hands for community arts. The Arts Council of Louisville is calling on all Kentuckiana and community artists: dancers, singers, poets, puppeteers, magicians, young artists, family and friends of the arts. The Arts Council of Louisville in collaboration with City Properties is asking for the arts community to participate in the upcoming benefit for the Lava House artists. The fire of the LAVA House was a tragedy beyond belief.  Please donate your time and consider our appeal to bring healing to a "Great Creative Community." We are asking you to share your time and creativity by caring. Your support of this community-wide endeavor will be greatly appreciated. Join us in our "Community Arts Benefit." All proceeds will be distributed to the nine artists who were at the LAVA House. We thank you in advance for your help. Donations of $10 or more will be greatly appreciated. FREE Admission. VSA Arts of Kentucky || The Artist Within: Disabling the Myth This lively and expressive exhibition will showcase 30 paintings created by adult artists with disabilities who participated in an optional basic art vocational program started eight years ago by Hugh E. Sandefur Industries, Inc. for its employees in Henderson. As a full scale manufacturing facility in Henderson, Kentucky, Hugh E. Sandefur Industries Inc. integrates vocational evaluation, employment development, adult daily living and work and social skills into a program designed to allow and give individuals an opportunity for gainful employment. The media and processes explored in the vocational classes may include acrylic and watercolor painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media and crafts.  The subjects and styles are represented in realism, abstraction, as well as, non-objective images. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Pyro Gallery || "Journeys," an exhibition of prints and drawings by Susan Moffett
Moffett's artwork chronicles a year long sabbatical and her emotional, professional, physical, and spiritual journeys. The physical include trips to Ireland, Costa Rica and the Wisconsin's Lake Superior shore. These intertwined emotionally and spiritually with another physical journey related to health. This exhibit is the culmination, as well as an ongoing investigation, of those journeys and self-discovery.

Pyro Gallery || "Caught in the Fall" an exhibition of Marilyn Whitesell's digital images
Marilyn Whitesell has been exploring making digital images since 1998.  Her work focuses on a love of natural objects such as shells, rocks, leaves, and wood. In several past digital photo collage series she has used these objects in conjunction with textiles, pottery and basketry. She draws inspiration from her broad collection of cultural artifacts, in particular Native American craft.

Speed Art Museum || Gee’s Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt

This exhibition features the brilliant, bold quilts created in the twentieth century by a group of women who live in the small, isolated African-American community of Gee's Bend in southwestern Alabama. The quilts in the exhibition, created by women spanning four generations, provide a fascinating look at the work of 20th-century artists who lived and worked in solitude. Admission is $8, free to museum members.

Speed Art Museum || Medieval and Renaissance Treasures

An exhibition of thirty five masterpieces selected from London’s Victoria and Albert.  The Victoria and Albert Museum has one of the greatest collections of Medieval and Renaissance works of art in existence.  These mostly small-scale precious works of art are highly prized for their beauty, the value of their materials and for the exquisite workmanship that went into their creation.  This once in a lifetime exhibition will feature such masterpieces as the so-called Basilewsky Situla, an extremely rare Holy Water bucket made for the Ottonian Emperor in the late tenth century; the only Byzantine statuette of the Virgin and Child to be carved entirely in the round, the ‘Soissons Diptych’, and a notebook of the most famous Renaissance artist and inventor, Leonardo da Vinci. Admission is $10, free to museum members.

VSA arts of Kentucky, Bowling Green || Gallery Show: “Side By Side 2008” || January 27 to March 30, 2008
“Side By Side” features the collaborative artwork created by artists with disabilities joining forces with professional area artists. This program is a partnership between VSA arts of Kentucky, the Kentucky Library & Museum and the Kelly Autism Program. The artists themselves will be honored at an opening reception.
