Artists For Peace Seeking Artists For Exhibit And Auction

Artists for Peace is a special project of the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association which encourages artists to become engaged in systems change to end violence against women and girls through a contribution of their artwork.  The project is on-going throughout the year, culminating in a live auction of selected art submissions. 
 
In return for a donation of artwork, artists will be promoted on their website, with their own special page.  Selected pieces will be exhibited in November at the LexArts City Gallery with a reception during the Gallery Hop on November 16th.  They will also select pieces to be auctioned on December 4th at the Marriott Griffin Gate Hotel.  All types of art are welcome.

Louisville Metro Department of Neighborhoods || Part-Time Employment || Deadline: November 14, 2007

The Louisville Metro Department of Neighborhoods is seeking a Part-Time "Social Service Program Assistant" for the Office of Youth Development's Studio 2000 youth arts program.  The position is for 20 hours per week, the schedule is set by the Program Director which may include Saturdays, and it pays $10.91 per hour.  Must provide own source of transportation.

The Program Assistant will perform general office work like prepare mailings to schools, review/organize student applications, handle phone calls, visit schools, disseminate program information, maintain records, assist with event planning and other related work.

Studio 2000 provides employment for young artists who demonstrate an interest and skill in the visual arts.  Apprentices work with local area artists who teach and inspire the young artists.  The apprentices earn weekly pay while producing art objects during the spring, summer and fall semester opportunities. The art is sold to the public at exhibits; proceeds return to Studio 2000 to support future programming.

Lexington Art League || Photography Workshops

The Lexington Art League will offer three photography workshops to coincide with their current exhibit entitled, Photography: What Now? - running through December 9. 

Basic Figure Photography with Trevor Booker || The basic elements of figure photography: lens choice, speed and aperture settings, ISO and lighting.  November 17, 10 am - 4 pm.

Intermediate Figure Photography with Frank Becker || Actual experiences with shooting the nude in studio conditions; emphasis on lighting and posing. November 28 and November 29,  6 - 9 pm. 

Holga Photography with Larry Joe Treadway || The Holga is an inexpensive, medium-format, box camera appreciated for its low-fidelity aesthetic.  December 6,  6 pm - 9 pm. 

Each workshop is $50 for LAL Members; $65 for Potential Members.  All workshops will be held in the Loudoun House and are limited to 10 each.  Visit the Lexington Art League website to learn more.  Call 859-254-7024 to register.

Kentucky Foundation for Women || Dates and Deadlines for 2008 Hopscotch House Retreats || Next Deadline: November 23, 2007

Information is now available for individual artists, artist groups and collectives, as well as allied groups and organizations interested in making use of Hopscotch House, KFW's Artist Retreat and Residency center, located in Prospect, KY.  All individuals and groups must submit a request form by the appropriate deadline to be considered.  Limited financial assistance is available to low-income artists who have never participated in a retreat or residency at Hopscotch House.
 
The next deadline is November 23, 2007 (postmark) for 2008 Winter Retreats: January 2-March 16, 2008.  Individual artists may request up to two weeks.  Notification mailed by December 7, 2007.

Mary Anderson Center || Arts Fellowships Available || Deadline: December 3, 2007

The Mary Anderson Center currently has ten fellowships available for writers, musicians and visual artists that range from two nights to two weeks.  Each fellowship has a stipend.  Two of the fellowships are specifically for women writers.

Preservation and Folklife Program Funding Seminar is for ANYONE working with programs related to fields of Preservation or documentation of Folklife! Come learn more about what Preservation and Folklife programs exist in the state of Kentucky and about funding available for work in these fields!  This seminar is for everyone at all levels to learn, to share, and to network.  Attendance at this seminar will count as a ˝ Credit for all Main Street Program Manager.

Roni Gilpin || Speaking Out Community Writing Project

Everybody has a story to tell, and so do you!  Join us at the Mercer County Public Library for a series of writing workshops, and learn to express yourself.  Whether you attend one session, or all, you will enjoy the camaraderie of fledgling and experienced writers in a completely non-threatening environment.  Participants' writings will be published in an anthology.  A culminating event in April featuring poet, Frank X Walker and others will be held.
